The 'Mega-tides' of the Severn Estuary

The Severn Estuary experiences one of the highest tides on the planet!

John Burrows has been studying and measuring high tides in the Severn Estuary for 10 years and studying the world’s 10 highest tides for context.

This fascinating talk takes us up the Severn Estuary from Cardiff to Chepstow and Lydney, and from Weston Super Mare to Avonmouth, Sharpness and beyond, with many outstanding and unusual photographs of the tide at work. John explains why the tides are so high and fast here, how they move, and how they compare with those in other parts of the world, their potential for energy and tourism, and looks at some of the most extreme tides in the Severn Estuary over the centuries.
